Take 2: Kalk Bay Caves

June 2 @ 08:30 - 12:30

Today we’re going to be doing something I have wanted to do for as long as I have been in Cape Town – explore the caves above Kalk Bay! Today we are so fortunate to be partnering with the Cape Leopard Trust and their fantastic team to venture into the hillsides and to explore some caves, and learn about the bats that live there, as well as the flora and fauna of these mountains that have just weathered some serious…

Today we have the privilege of being taken by renowned Cape Town author and historian, Dr. Helen Robinson through the streets of Wynberg as she regales us with the history these streets have seen. Dr Helen Robinson is 87 years old, and still writing books about Cape Town and its past! Please do have a special word with your kids about the necessary respect we need to show her. Here’s a little bit more about her: Dr Helen Robinson began…

Disturbing District 6

August 11 @ 09:45 - 12:00

This week we’re going to be visiting another area that will teach us more about South Africa’s past and the effects of the Group Area’s Act. This is a disturbing piece of South Africa history, and I’m hoping we’ll also be able to find the dazzling part of it – the testimony to the spirit of men and women who rose above their circumstances and made the most of a very hard hand of cards.

Take 2: Liesbeck River Study

September 1 @ 08:45 - 11:30

I am so excited to be finally doing this outing! This little gem of a river has been on my radar since my early days in Cape Town. I have always loved the idea of tracing a river to its source, like the explorers did in days gone by. What I love about this outing is that Anton, from the Centre for Conservation Education, will be taking us to two sites along this river, which will give us a great…

Kloof Nek Water Treatment Plant

September 8 @ 09:45 - 12:00

Given that we’re in the middle of a serious water crisis, I thought that it would be appropriate to visit a water treatment plant, and learn about the ways the City of Cape Town is trying to conserve water and educate its citizens. I certainly don’t know enough about the journey of water from a water body into my tap, so this is sure to be an eye opener for us all! (We’ve had to bring this outing forward two…

Take 2: Savour the Sea and her Shipwrecks!

October 6 @ 09:00 - 12:30

Sigh, isn’t it lovely to feel Spring in the air? The evenings are getting longer, the mornings are lighter earlier. Spring has sprung! Although let’s be honest, in Cape Town it does take a while to really feel Summer’s kisses! But whilst we wait for her to shine her true colours, let’s get our bodies moving in anticipation of those glorious Summer days! This hike is lovely as those with small kids can do an out and back route along…

We are going to experience the majesty of Table Mountain!   The costs have increased slightly but I will keep you posted, so for now, just think about majestic mountains! We’ll be ascending at 12 pm, so be sure to be there by 1130 so we can get everything sorted!

Take 2: Koeberg Nuclear Power Station

November 3 @ 09:30 - 11:30
Koeberg Nuclear Power Station,
South Africa
+ Google Map

This Friday we’re going to be visiting a new type of a power station, a nuclear one. Do you remember the other power station we visited a few years ago? In the visitor’s centre, we’ll learn how this power station provides power for South Africa, as well as learning how Eskom is seeking to respect the environment around the station. Please come prepared to enjoy the talk we’ll be given, and think about┬ápossibly doing one of the smaller hikes around…

Heavenly Hike!

November 10 @ 08:30 - 12:30

There is nothing quite like lacing up your hiking boots and getting ready to go into the outdoors – be it a walk along the coast, up a mountain or even through a forest! What I know for sure is that this Friday we will be hiking. What I don’t know for sure is which hike we will be doing! There are a couple that between now and then I will test and with time to spare I will let…
